Two Tokyo diggers, one heavy 45. Funky Soul Brother is DJ KOCO aka SHIMOKITA, one of Japan's best-known 45 DJs, together with producer Southpaw Chop. Their third 7" puts two new funk-soaked hip-hop cuts on the A-side. The flip finally brings back the original demo of "Funky Soul Brother," the track that started the duo. Imported from Japan.

  • Two new tracks on Side A. "On The Run" and "Loosey Lusy" have hard-hitting drums and funk loops built for the dance floor.
  • The FSB Demo on Side B. This is the demo of their debut single, released after fans kept asking for it.
  • Made by vinyl-only diggers. Southpaw Chop spins only wax and samples straight from original records. He has produced for Large Professor, A.G., Kool G Rap and Craig G.
  • Japan import 7". Released by Southpaw Chop's own label.

About Funky Soul Brother

DJ KOCO has spent years building a reputation as one of the sharpest 45 selectors anywhere. His all-7" sets mix funk, soul and breaks with fast, precise cutting. Southpaw Chop works in the same old-school way. He is a Tokyo DJ and producer who plays vinyl only and holds a residency at the long-running "Classics" hip-hop night at Sound Museum Vision. Together as Funky Soul Brother they make short, punchy records that sit between a break and a beat: easy to mix, hard-hitting, and made for DJs who play 45s.
