1976 Japanese jazz-fusion from keyboardist Mikio Masuda, reissued on clear yellow vinyl. After leaving Terumasa Hino's group and spending time in the US, Masuda came home and formed the fusion band Mickey's Mouth. This is their first album, five tracks of electric keys, funk grooves and open-ended jams, now back on vinyl from Universal Music Japan. Japanese pressing, new.

  • A deep cut of 1970s Japanese fusion. From the same scene as Terumasa Hino and the East Wind label, where Masuda recorded his 1974 debut Trace.
  • Clear yellow vinyl. A 2026 color reissue from Universal Music Japan.
  • Five long tracks. Room for the band to stretch out, led by Masuda on electric piano and synthesizer.
  • Japanese pressing. Catalog number PROZ-7927, released September 30, 2026.

About the album

Mikio "Mickey" Masuda, born in Osaka in 1949, taught himself piano after starting out on bass and became a key player in Tokyo's jazz scene in the early 1970s, most notably alongside trumpeter Terumasa Hino and his brother, drummer Motohiko Hino. By the mid-'70s he was moving toward electric jazz-funk, and Mickey's Mouth, named after the band he formed on his return from the US, is the result. Long overlooked outside Japan, it has become a favorite of collectors digging into Japanese fusion and the instrumental side of the city pop era.
