Joe Hisaishi's Image Symphonic Suite Howl's Moving Castle, recorded with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague, on vinyl for the first time from Studio Ghibli Records. Instead of a small-scale image album, Hisaishi wrote his first musical take on Miyazaki's world as a full symphonic suite, recorded in Prague and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London. Newly remastered, with new jacket artwork, commentary and liner notes. Japanese pressing, new.

  • First time on vinyl. Released on Japan's Record Day, November 3, 2020, as the album's LP debut.
  • The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Recorded in Prague, with mastering at Abbey Road Studios, London.
  • An image album on a symphonic scale. Ten orchestral pieces written before the film's score.
  • Remastered, with new jacket art, commentary and liner notes. Catalog number TJJA-10029.

About the album

For most Miyazaki films, Joe Hisaishi's first step was an image album: smaller-scale music written to capture a film's world before the score. For Howl's Moving Castle (2004), he went big from the start, composing an "image symphonic suite" and recording it with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague, the orchestra he had worked with on the Princess Mononoke symphonic suite. The ten pieces sketch the film's world in full orchestral color: the "Mysterious World" of the opening, the wizard and his walking castle, Sophie's hopes, the war that hangs over the story, and a "Wizard's Waltz." In 2020, Studio Ghibli Records remastered the album and released it on vinyl for the first time, alongside the Howl's Moving Castle soundtrack and the Spirited Away albums.
