About the soundtrack

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind was the film that made Studio Ghibli possible, and its score was the first Joe Hisaishi wrote for Miyazaki. After composing the Tori no Hito image album from the manga, Hisaishi reworked those themes into the full film score: sweeping orchestral passages for the flight scenes, early synthesizer textures for the Sea of Corruption, and the innocent "Nausicaä Requiem" that has become one of the most recognizable pieces in anime. The jacket reproduces Miyazaki's watercolor of Nausicaä taking up a gun to end the suffering of a dying baby Ohmu she couldn't save. Studio Ghibli Records first reissued this LP on Japan's Record Day in November 2018, and after it sold out, pressed more copies.
