Tatsuro Yamashita's 1978 live album, remastered and recut on 180g double vinyl. IT'S A POPPIN' TIME captures two nights at Roppongi Pit Inn with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ponta Murakami and Japan's top session players, mixing new songs, covers and stretched-out jams. About the album

In 1978, between SPACY and GO AHEAD!, Tatsuro Yamashita booked two nights (March 8 and 9) at Roppongi Pit Inn, a tiny Tokyo jazz and fusion club that held only a few dozen people, and brought the best session players in Japan with him: Ryuichi Sakamoto on keys, Shuichi "Ponta" Murakami on drums, Tsunehide Matsuki on guitar, Akira Okazawa on bass and Eiji Toki on sax, with Minako Yoshida on backing vocals. Inspired by Donny Hathaway's live records, IT'S A POPPIN' TIME mixes new songs, covers like the soul classic "HEY THERE LONELY GIRL" and loose, stretched-out takes on "SOLID SLIDER" and "CIRCUS TOWN," with plenty of room for the band to cut loose. Sakamoto's phased Fender Rhodes alone makes this a must for keys heads and crate diggers.

This 2LP was the final release in the TATSURO YAMASHITA RCA/AIR YEARS Vinyl Collection, which reissued his 1976–1982 catalog with a 2023 remaster and new vinyl cutting, and it went Top 10 on the Oricon weekly album chart in Japan.
